September 29th, 2006 - .mobi domains now available
We are pleased to announce that OxONet will now be offering hosting service
for the brand-new .mobi top-level-domain. Sites in this domain target mobile
devices such as cell phones. Consider the following facts regarding Internet use
on mobile devices:
- More people have access to an Internet-ready mobile device than a PC with
Internet access. (GSM Association)
- 70% of mobile phones worldwide are already configured for Internet access;
1.3 billion users will have Internet access on their phone by 2008. (GSM
Association)
- 56% of multimedia phone owners already use it to access mobile content (A.
T. Kearney study).
The growth of this market will drive worldwide demand for .mobi over the next
several years.

March 11th, 2006 - New Servers
We are pleased to announce that we have migrated all OxONet services to brand new state-of-the-art servers running in downtown Middletown, Ohio, at iFiber (Innovative Fiber Optic Solutions). Some of the improvements from this migration are:
- Faster, expanded servers will provide services faster than ever, and give us plenty of room for growth in the future.
- Upgrading to the RedHat Linux Enterprise Server ES 4 operating system means smoother, more reliable upgrades of our software.
- Our clients connected to the iFiber network all across the region will have access to our servers at blazing fast LAN speeds. The combined OxONet / iFiber service offers tremendous value for high bandwidth applications.
- By being closer to our home market of Oxford, Ohio, we will be able to rapidly service the equipment, if the need arises.
All existing data and configurations have been copied automatically. The only significant software
change is that the new servers are running MySQL 4.1 rather than MySQL 3.23. If you use a database, you may want to make sure it is compatible with MySQL 4.1; most popular web applications support MySQL 4.1.
Thank you for your business, and we look forward to serving you - faster and better than ever - for a long time to come.
January 24th, 2006 - System Status Line
We are pleased to announce today our new toll-free System Status Line at 1-877-397-7350.
While we do everything that we can to maintain 100% uptime, this is not always possible due
to circumstances beyond our control. In the event that you believe there is an outage on any
or all of our servers, please call our system status line to hear if we have made an official
announcement about an outage. If no announcement has been made, you can leave a message and a
technician will be paged to review our servers' availability.
November 9th, 2005 - FTP using SSL/TLS encryption
We have upgraded our FTP server software to
support SSL/TLS encryption. If your FTP client supports it,
you can protect your FTP login/password and all data transfers using
high-grade encryption similar to secure web sites (https). This prevents
others on the Internet from being able to intercept and steal your login
information or any of the data in the files you transfer. Please note the SSL certificate used by our FTP server is issued to
"secure.oxonet.com". You should use this as your FTP server hostname
instead of "yourdomain.com" that you might normally use. Otherwise, some
FTP clients may show an alert about a mismatch of server names. We strongly encourage all users of FTP to enable SSL encryption on their
FTP clients. If you are using an FTP client that does not support
encryption, we would suggest that you to check for an updated version with
support or switch to another client that does support it.
September 30th, 2005 - Clam AntiVirus
We have installed Clam AntiVirus, and updated our SpamAssassin filters.
More about Clam AntiVirus: being online today means that your computer is vulnerable to many forms
of malicious viruses, worms, and "phishing" schemes which attempt to steal
your personal information, corrupt or access your data, and so on.
Many of these threats use e-mail to spread. OxONet employs the
award-winning Clam
AntiVirus system to scan every e-mail message you receive for many
types of malicious code. Any threats found are immediately blocked
so they never reach your computer. ClamAV is known for its
quick
response time to new threats as they are discovered. It is
trusted by many
large and well-known organizations to secure their networks. You can
be confident that your e-mail will always be protected with the most
up-to-date virus information available.
August 6th, 2004 - Majordomo->Mailman Conversion
Mailing lists have been converted from Majordomo to Mailman.

May 18th, 2004 - E-mail viruses
Several e-mail viruses are alive right now that masquerade as being emails from
various companies. We have received reports that some people have received emails
from support@oxonet.com requesting that the recipient download and run an attached
"virus tool." We will never send
you an e-mail asking you to run a file attachment, click on a link, give us
your password or other personal information, etc. Also, all of our official
mailings will be addressed to customers@oxonet.com, which is a
closed mailing list. If you ever see any mail which seems
suspicious, contact us to verify we sent it before opening it.
